Suicide Bomber Kills at least 50 Inside Pakistani Mosque

At least 50 people were killed Friday when a bomber detonated a device inside a mosque filled with worshippers celebrating the Islamic holy day Eid al-Adha in Sherpao, Pakistan.

Police have said the bomber was among the worshippers inside the mosque when the device was detonated. Filled with nails and ball bearings, the bomb ripped through bodies and left body parts strewn across the scene.

Shortly after the blast police raided an Islamic school and arrested seven students but have not confirmed the arrests were related to the attack.

Sherpao, located near the Afghanistan border in the northwest territory of Pakistan, is known for pro-Taliban and al-Qaida militants who are have carried out several attacks in an attempt to disrupt the upcoming parliamentary elections in Pakistan scheduled for Jan. 8.
