Narconon to Exhibit in Georgia State Capitol

Drug Education Exhibit Targets Legislators, Public

Narconon of Georgia, a long term drug rehab program, will host an educational booth at Georgia State Capitol on March 19, 2008, advocating for drug recovery through its colorful and descriptive exhibit.   The large exhibit will fill the West End of the gold domed Capitol, generating awareness among our decision makers and public about addiction problems in Georgia and the need for solutions.

A key point of education will be regarding methamphetamineMethamphetamine use is on the rise and attendant arrests are putting a strain on the prison system of Georgia, one that is already amongst the largest in the country.   The Narconon exhibit will educate the public on the effects of methamphetamine addiction while at the same time advocate treatment instead of incarceration for those offenders who really want help. The exhibit will also feature information on marijuana, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and crack addiction.

The Executive Director of Narconon stated, “When kids try this drug they don’t realize that they can become almost immediately addicted.  Once addicted, long term use of the drug can cause rotting teeth and sores all over the body, along with other undesirable effects which can include death.   Add prison to the mix and you have young people with bad health, entangled in hopeless situation.  Obviously, no one intends on such dire consequences from what started as an ill conceived desire to have some fun by taking a drug.

"Through drug education on the severe risks of methamphetamine use, we hope to deter kids from ever taking the drug.  Through educating our legislatures, we want to provide help for those kids who have already gotten in trouble before their lives are completely ruined by prison or death."

The Drug Enforcement Agency has acknowledged that the Atlanta area has become an East Coast hub for distributing high grade methamphetamine.  Atlanta now supplies large amounts of meth to New York, Boston and Chicago.

The problem cannot be ignored.  Available treatment and education, rather than enforcement ultimately will prove to be the answer to the problem.”

Narconon is a non-traditional drug abuse treatment program which was founded in 1967.

Narconon of Georgia was founded in 2001.  While many drug rehab statistics are nebulous, Narconon boasts a 76% success rate (based on a two year follow-up) through a non-12 step drug treatment program.  This program provides body detoxification through a sauna and exercise program that helps eliminate or reduce cravings.  After the sauna program, the client learns those life skills essential to success in life and the ability to stay clean.  They graduate from Narconon with a life plan and continued support to make sure they make it in life.
