While Mitt Romney has recently unleashed his attacking commercial on Mike Huckabee, it seems his target was a little misguided. Focusing on Huckabee, there is no way Romney could have seen the McCain campaign coming for him. The McCain campaign has made it very clear they need to win New Hampshire to have a chance in the election. With Mitt Romney being the front-runner in New Hampshire, it seemed only appropriate for there to be some mud slinging from McCain.
McCain’s campaign was digging deep and even brought up the Boston Globe investigation that revealed Romney had hired a lawn company who had employed illegal immigrant workers. But with the ARG poll showing McCain at 18%, only 2 percent ahead of Romney, it seems McCain is getting a bit nervous about New Hampshire. The ABC News Polls at www.USAElectionPolls.com has Romney at 17% with McCain trailing by 5% of the votes.
Of course the McCain campaign is stating their mailer is only a response to a prior Romney mailer that attacked McCain and others. With a double digit margin in New Hampshire with Republicans, it seems Romney might just pull off his victory there however.
