MLB Schedule Saturday April 17: Tim Lincecum Takes Mound for San Francisco Giants in Game Two Against LA Dodgers

The MLB season is now in full swing and while there have been a number of early surprises many of the teams that were expected to play well have done just that. On Friday night Roy Halladay picked up his third win of the season for the Philadelphia Phillies, CC Sabathia paced the NY Yankees past the Texas Rangers, Chris Carpenter got the St. Louis Cardinals by the NY Mets and Derek Lowe did enough for the Atlanta Braves to beat the Colorado Rockies.

Saturday promises to be just as entertaining as all 30 teams take the field with several of the games top arms on the hill.

Tim Lincecum will be gunning for his third win of the season as the San Francisco Giants face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second game of their series. While it may be a surprise that the Giants are leading the NL West, the success of their pitching has been exceptional and they have been getting timely hitting to stand at 7-3 on the year.

Johan Santana will try to get the NY Mets back on track as the NY Mets play their second game in St. Louis. The Mets have been brutal this year, sitting in the cellar of the NL East with a 3-7 record while the Cardinals, backed by Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday, are atop the NL Central at 7-3.

The New York Yankees quietly crept up the ladder in the AL East and currently hold a ½ game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays and could extend that advantage on Saturday as they send AJ Burnett to the hill in a home game against the Texas Rangers.

Tampa saw their game against the Boston Red Sox suspended on Friday night due to rain. The Red Sox have started slow but they’ll have one of their best arms in Clay Buchholz on the hill Saturday.

The Minnesota Twins have been one of the surprises this year as they have jumped to an 8-3 record and lead the AL Central by 1 ½ games over the Detroit Tigers. The Twins are coming off a Friday night win against Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke and have lookd like a team that will be there all year.
