North Korea Denies Sinking South Korean Ship, Calls Accusation “Foolish”

North Korea has denied responsibility for last month’s deadly sinking of a South Korean warship near their disputed maritime border, calling recent allegations “foolish.”

While there has been no official statement from the South that has suggested a cause of the explosion that killed 46 sailors South Korean media outlets have clearly blamed the North for the incident. Many of those outlets have claimed the vessel was struck by a torpedo fired by North Korea but there has been no conclusive evidence that substantiates those claims.

In response to the allegations North Korea issued a statement through state media that said “As South Korea can't identify the cause of the accident, they are using the media to attribute it to us.”

South Korean officials have investigated the possibility that the ship struck an old mine left over from the Korean War but that investigation has not produced anything conclusive.
