With a bigger-than-life picture emblazoned on the side of his blue campaign bus Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is finally back on the campaign trail. He claims he will be touring throughout Iowa during the final two weeks before that state's January 3rd caucus. He is struggling to make up of time on the road which many say has put him in a solid third place in recent pools.
According to reports from usaelectionpolls.com Mike Huckabee holds a commanding lead in the state with Mitt Romney holding onto the second highest number of probably Democratic voters. Thompson is still touting his conservatism and comparing it to the conservative opinions of Ronald Reagan. He has unofficially adopted the mantra of a newspaper columnist of being the horse that conservative voters can ride into the White House.
This former Tennessee Senator turned actor, returned politician gave up a place as the role of a judge on the weekly television drama Law and Order to make his bid for the Republic nomination. He got a late start, officially entering the race in early September, but has lagged behind the Iowa leaders as well as Rudy Giuliani in most nationwide polls.
How he might fare against the Democrat candidates in one-on-one competition can be seen in polls posted at PresidentElectionPolls.com. These polls pit individual Republicans and Democrats to indicate each of the top candidate's electability should they win the primary election.
Thompson's big push in Iowa comes at a time when Huckabee just made a huge surge into the lead by a commanding margin. Even with a plus or minus four percent margin of error, the likelihood of him losing the top position is slim. Historically, no candidate that was in the top therein Iowa has ever gone on to win the general election.
