Dale Baird, thoroughbred racing’s winningest trainer, died on Sunday after he lost control of the pickup truck he was driving and slammed into another car on Interstate 70 about 20 miles west of Indianapolis.
Baird had been hauling a livestock trailer on the icy roadway when he lost control of the vehicle and broadsided two teenagers who were on their way home from the Indianapolis Colts-Houston Texans football game. Both James Pardo, 19, and Jared Graham, 18, were killed in the accident as well.
The 72-year-old Baird collected more than 9,400 victories over a career that spanned more than four decades
