San Francisco Tiger Attack Injures Two and Kills One

Authorities will be searching the San Francisco Zoo today to find out how a tiger could have escaped its pen.  300 pound Tatiana broke out of her pen 15 minutes after the zoo’s closing time, 5 pm, yesterday and attacked three zoo visitors killing one at the scene.  The first victim was attacked from behind.  His throat was slashed and his chest clawed.  The San Francisco Chronicle says that she then continued on to a café where she attacked two more people leaving them in critical condition.  The police arrived and shot the 4 year old Siberian tiger.  Tatiana is now deceased.

One year ago Tatiana gnawed the flesh off of a zoo keeper’s arm during a routine feeding demonstration.  The San Francisco Zoo was held responsible for the attack because of the hazardous cage set up and the keeper’s lack of training.

The two surviving men were taken to San Francisco General Hospital where they are being treated by Dr. Eric Isaacs. “I believe there was probably some blood loss at the zoo, but here they are talking, they are alert, their vital signs are stable at this time.”   The two men, ages 19 and 23 are in stable condition with several lacerations.  They are expected to be released today.

Officials are still unsure how the animal got out.  She was surrounded by a 15 foot moat and 20 foot walls.
