Rafael Nadal Ends Title Drought with Historic Sixth Straight Monte Carlos Masters

Rafael Nadal ended his nearly one-year tennis title drought with a dominant performance in Sunday’s Monte Carlos Masters final, drubbing fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-0, 6-1 for his historic sixth straight title at the event.

In winning the Monte Carlos Masters Nadal became the first tennis player to ever win the same event six straight times since the sport turned professional in 1968.

The win on the clay court also pushed Nadal into a tie with Roger Federer for most career Masters titles at 16, one behind Andre Agassi for the most in history.

Prior to Sunday’s Monte Carlos Masters win Nadal’s last title came at the Rome Masters in May 2009.
