John McCain Sees Need For Interrogation School

With the United States coming under increasing criticism and claims of using torture in questioning terrorist suspects, Republican Arizona Senator John McCain is calling for special instruction on interrogation techniques to prevent the possibility of torture being used in the future as a mean of getting information.

Additionally, he is calling for a special unit to be ready to attack terrorism at any time, anywhere. McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam and is said to understand how torture of prisoners can turn allies away.

Despite his siding with President Bush on the war in Iraq, McCain has some right wing support from the Democrats as he has broken ranks with many of the Republican policies. Polls published at usaelectionpolls.com do not, however show him making headway beyond his fourth place with 14 percent of the anticipated Republican voters. In Iowa, he is showing just six percent and surged to a second place 27 percent in New Hampshire, moving up on Mitt Romney who holds the lead with 31 percent.

McCain says there need to be more accountability when questioning prisoners and his comments are close on the heels of accusations that the CIA destroyed interrogation tapes of suspected terrorists. McCain said he did not have any information about suspected torture, but the recent accusations of the destroyed tapes makes the United States look bad in the eyes of the world.

His point, he said, is to make sure there is a plan in place for interrogating international prisoners and procedures are in place to insure those measures are followed.
