Kenya elections kicked off today at 6 am. Registered voters will cast their ballots to elect presidential, parliamentary and civic leaders for a five year run in office. President Mawi Kibaki was elected in 2002 and is running for another five year term. Reports say his biggest opponent is Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga.
Also trying to secure the presidency is former cabinet minister Kalonzo Musyoka and former televangelist Pius Muriu.
A majority of all votes cast as well as a minimum of 25 percent in five out of the eight provinces is required to win the election. The new president will be announced Saturday.
