For many political candidates, what they say is not nearly as important as what they deny and with the scrutiny of the national news media, just about any negative remark can make or break a candidate. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is reeling from an insinuated connection between him and a former contract worker for his campaign.
Despite denials by the alleged partner in the political hook-up and another man coming forward to claim that he is the father of the child, not John Edwards, it has many people looking at the former North Carolina senator a little closer. The alleged affair occurred when the woman's company was contracted for video work and is based on information from an unknown close friend of the woman.
Edwards, an unsuccessful vice presidential candidate in 2000 with John Kerry, his run at the White House has been a rough one with questions surrounding his financial dealings and how he hit the campaign trail wit his wife suffering from cancer. He has managed to hold a top three position in most polls reported by usaelectionpolls.com and many in his campaign trust believe it is nothing more than another attempt to discredit his candidacy because his populist stands are having an effect on the potential voters.
Unfortunately, as most candidates know, when someone steps up and denies something took place, even before the accusation is made, it is often taken as an attempt to pre-empt the truth. Even with denial by both parties involved and the confession of another married man that he is to blame, Edwards may face additional scrutiny on the issue.
