Crosby and Penguins Take the Lead

Penguins Lead Eastern Conference Series 2-1

Recent Olympic Gold medal winner Sidney Crosby is showing no signs of slowing down. Just last week he scored his 50th career goal. On Sunday, he led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-2 defeat of the Ottawa Senators. Crosby said after the game, "It's a challenge every night in the playoffs. There's not a lot of space and I think it's important that you come ready to compete, especially for me individually. I know that playing against those two guys on defense it's going to be difficult so I've got to be prepared to compete and find ways. It's not always going to happen but I've got to be ready to compete, so that's all I've been trying to do." The "two guys" that he refers to are Anton Volchenkov and Chris Phillips, who made a great effort to stop Crosby from doing more damage. On the Penguins side of things, Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves, while both Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored goals. The victory put the Penguins in a 2-1 lead over the Senators in the Eastern Conference series. The Penguins are the defending Stanley Cup Champions, and Sunday's performance suggests that they may be able to successfully defend their coveted title.
