Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Refuses Demands to Halt Building Projects in East Jerusalem.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has continued to dismiss Palestinian demands that Israel halt their building projects in East Jerusalem, telling ABC News “This demand that they've now introduced, the Palestinians, to stop all construction, Jewish construction in Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem, is totally, totally a non-starter, because what it does is prevent peace.”

Palestinians have insisted that peace talks with Israel cannot exist until they stop building in East Jerusalem. Palestinians have said they envision East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state yet Israel has long maintained that the area is already under their domain.

The United States has been pressing Israel to halt construction in East Jerusalem, saying it was necessary to peace talks but Netanyahu has ignored those pleas. Netanyahu has countered by demanding pace talks be held without preconditions, declaring Palestinians would never entered into talks if they were handed preconditions.
