Miss France Survives Photo Scandal, Retains Title

Valerie Begue survived a photo scandal that threatened to strip her of her Miss France title and she will be allowed to retain her crown but she didn’t exactly escape unscathed.

While the 22-year-old beauty was allowed to keep the title, she will not be allowed to compete in the Miss World or Miss Universe contests to be held later in 2008. Instead, Miss New Caledonia will take the stage as a replacement.

Shortly after being crowned Miss France pictures surfaced of Begue in which she was posing in a crucified manner in a bikini and a photo of her licking milk in what pageant organizers felt was a suggestive fashion.

Several of those organizers called for Begue to renounce her title yet the native of Reunion, an island in the French Indian Ocean, refused and she quickly gained the support of several politicians, media, and citizens. Eventually the organizers gave-in and allowed Begue to retain her Miss France title.
