Jim Leyritz, Former New York Yankees World Series Hero, in Jail Following DUI Homicide

Jim Leyritz, the former New York Yankees catcher who helped his team overcome a two game deficit in the 1996 World Series and beat the Atlanta Braves, was arrested on Friday and charged with DUI homicide following an early morning crash in Fort Lauderdale.

According to police reports Leyritz was driving in the city’s bar district when he struck another vehicle. A passenger in that vehicle was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

WPLG-Channel 10 reported that Leyritz refused a sobriety test and was arrested and charged with two counts of drunken driving. He is currently in the Broward County Main Jail in Miami.
