Jim Leyritz Charged with DUI Homicide after Early Morning Crash

Former major league baseball player Jim Leyritz was arrested early Friday morning following an accident in which he struck another vehicle, killing a passenger in that car.

 

Leyritz, who was celebrating his 44th birthday on Thursday night in a bar district in Fort Lauderdale, was booked on two counts of drunken driving.

 

According to police at the scene Lyritz struck the other vehicle on Southwest 7th Avenue and Second Street. A passenger in the other car was thrown from the vehicle and killed at the scene of the accident.

 

After police arrived Leyritz refused a breathalyzer and was booked in the Broward County Main Jail in Miami.

 

Leyritz played 11 seasons in the major leagues and won a World Series ring with the New York Yankees.
