Julian Moti Deported to Australia, Faces 17 Years on Rape Charge

Former attorney general for the Solomon Islands Julian Moti was deported to Australia where he was immediately arrest on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1997.

 

The 42-year-old Moti was fired from his post as attorney general on December 24 and faced deportation. Moti tried to appeal the order but was unsuccessful and on Friday he arrived in Brisbane where he was immediately arrested.

 

A brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrate Court on Friday led to an order that he remain in custody until January 4. If convicted Moti could face up to 17 years in prison.
