Anu Solanki is alive, ran off with another man

Police believe a missing Chicago woman is alive and ran off with another man who has been identified as Karan Jani. After further investigation, authorities say Anu Solanki’s cell phone records led them to believe she is still alive.

Solanki disappeared Monday but her car was found in a forest preserve parking lot Monday afternoon. The car was still running and the doors were unlocked. Solanki’s husband said she had gone to the Cook County Forest Preserve to place a broken statue of the Hindu god Ganesh in the water. Putting the statue in the water will prevent bad luck, according to a priest. Authorities initially believed the 24-year-old may have slipped and fell into the water.

Solnaki’s husband also said his wife called and told him she was being followed by four men near a dam at the preserve. A water search was abandoned after cell phone records were reviewed. The records indicate Solanki left the area on her own free will. Authorities say when she called and told her husband she was being followed near the dam; she was actually driving through DeKalb on Interstate 88.

Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said authorities believe Solanki left the area with a male friend, 23-year-old Karan Jani who recently graduated from the University of Southern California.
