France Readies Itself for Smoking Ban in Bars, Restaurants and Cafes

As of January 1 France will ban smoking in bars, restaurants, cafes, clubs, hotels and casinos, adding yet another roadblock for smokers’ looking to get a puff. France has already banned the practice in the workplace, airports, hospitals and schools.

Fears among restaurant and café owners have already been voiced yet have fallen on deaf ears as the country looks to keep pace with Italy, Spain, Ireland and Britain who have their own smoking bans in place.

While the ban is to go in effect on January 1, French authorities have said they wouldn’t begin to enforce the new law until January 2, giving smokers New Years Day to adjust.
