HolidayLEDs.com, an online retailer of LED decorative lighting, is expanding its line of LED string lighting to include a complete line of energy-efficient lights for wedding decorations. HolidayLEDs.com’s complete line of LED decorative lighting will be available by April 1, 2008.
“I think that a lot of people think that being ‘Green’ is just some sort of trendy fad,” said Timothy Hill, co-owner of HolidayLEDs.com, “but unlike the similar phenomenon we saw after the oil embargo of 1973 this trend is driven by long term factors in our environment and economy.” The strong push by Americans to evaluate the impact that their activities have on our environment has found its way into wedding planning. The New York Times recently reported on the trend and a website, Greatgreenwedding.com, is dedicated to the topic. “People produce an incredible amount of excess waste at times of celebration—excess is just inherent in celebration,” explained Hill. “However, it also means it’s a great place to cut down,” Hill concluded.
Christmas lights or Italian lights have been used for wedding decorations for some time. Restaurants, ballrooms, and other venues which are common hosts to wedding parties frequently use the lights year-round for decorative or accent lighting. “It may not seem like a lot of energy but many venues are using these lights year-round and at 85% energy savings this can pay off quickly,” Hill added.
LED Christmas lights are 85-99% more efficient than standard incandescent lights and will last for more than 50,000 hours. The highly efficient lights also operate at very low temperature and therefore are much safer to use indoors and decrease cooling costs.
