Italy's largest telephone company met Monday with unions to discuss 4,500 new job cuts under a new 2010-2012 business plan, on top of 2,300 cuts previously announced.
Telecom Italia, which has shed its noncore businesses to focus on the Italian and Brazilian markets, had more than 71,000 employees at the end of 2009. Profits last year dropped 27 percent on lower revenues.
