Kenya Election Results Keeps Kibaki in Presidential Office

Mwai Kibaki, the man who has held the presidential office in Kenya since 2002, was declared the winner in the country’s presidential election, beating opposition leader Raila Odinga by more than 230,000 votes.

Just after being declared the winner Kibaki took the oath of office while thousands of protesters took to the street and declared the elections were rigged.

The Kenyan elections have been littered with violence as many of the country’s poor had rallied behind Odinga in hopes of ushering in a new government. Odinga has accused Kibaki of fostering an attitude of corruption and had called on the president to concede the election despite the results.
