New Year Message from President Hu Jintao

President Hu Jintao delivered his New Years Speech entitled, “Make Joint Efforts to Advance the Lofty Cause of Peace and Development for Mankind.”  In it, Hu Jintao covered several topics.

Jintao hopes that th Beijing Olympics will help develop understanding and cooperation between countries and plans to continue China’s current path of economic reform.  In addition, Jintao commented on the need to “strengthen social construction” in order to ensure better social services to provide the sick and elderly with help when needed.

He is quoted saying, “We will strive to ensure education for all, payment for work done, treatment for the sick, care for the elderly and homes for everyone to promote social harmony."

China will encourage economic globalization that “develops toward balance and shared benefit for all.”  Jintao stresses a “harmonious society” through sustainable development by dispensing of

China will “hold high the banner of peace” and aid those injured from war and sickness on a global basis.  However, security has become “complicated.”
