“Weepin” Willie Robinson, Legendary Blues Musician, Dies in Boston House Fire

Iconic bluesman “Weepin” Willie Robinson, known as the elder statesman of the blues, died on Sunday in a house fire a rest home in Boston, Massachusetts residence. He was 81.

 

According to the Boston Fire Department the blaze was started by a cigarette Robinson was smoking while in bed.

 

Robinson got his break while traveling with B.B. King and eventually became a staple in Boston clubs from the late 1950s until his death. Along the way he performed with a variety of rock and roll artists and blues musicians such as Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Bonnie Raitt.
