Blizzard Leaves Travelers bound for Colorado Ski Resorts and Vacation Rentals Stranded

Hundreds of travelers found themselves stranded on a 60-mile stretch of route I-70 between Breckenridge and Denver. Summit Middle School located between Frisco and Breckenridge was opened to accommodate stranded motorists. Many reported visibility to be less than three feet, as 70 mph gusts made the highway impassible. Apart for from the high wind and low visibility the risk of avalanches is a main reason to close the highway through the Colorado Rockies on the way to Breckenridge vacation homes.

Many travelers are in temporary shelters in schools and recreation centers for the night. Some stranded travelers relied on the kindness of strangers as locals opened up their homes and
Colorado vacation rentals to those in need.

Three other mountain passes were closed Monday due to blizzard conditions: U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass, U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass and U.S. 550 over Red Mountain Pass. The closing of I-70, the main highway between Denver and the ski resorts and ski rental condos is of main concern for the holiday travelers bound for major colorado ski resorts.

Destination Villas recommends monitoring the weather conditions in advance of leaving home, as a travel advisory for the Colorado ski resorts is currently in effect.
