Geico Fires Tag Announcer After Leaving Disparaging Message on Voicemail for Tea Party Group FreedomWorks

Geico, the insurance company best known for its animated gecko pitchman and caveman skits, has fired the famous voice behind its commercials after he left a disparaging message on the voicemail for Tea Party group FreedomWorks.

Lance Baxter, known more commonly as D.C. Douglas, called the office of FreedomWorks and inquired about “the percentage of people that are mentally retarded who are working for FreedomWorks and who are following it.”

Douglas also asked how FreedomWorks would “spin it when one of your members does actually kill somebody, wondering if you've got a PR spinning routine planned for that or are you just gonna take it when it happens.”

The voicemail was quickly published by FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe and Geico was flooded with complaints about Douglas. He was dismissed and the insurance company has already begun holding auditions for a new voice.
