19 year old Paul Dhaliwal, his 23 year old brother Kulbir Dhaliwal and their friend 17 year old Carlos Sousa Jr. were spending Christmas day at the San Francisco Zoo when their day was spoiled by a surprise tiger attack. Sousa Jr. was killed on site and the two brothers were taken to the hospital. The brothers now hold the zoo responsible for the attack claiming that they tried to warn the zoo of the escaped tiger, but nothing was done until it was too late.
The Dhaliwal’s attorney Mark Geragos states “they were out there for 30 to 35 minutes and nobody takes them seriously – especially when there was blood. It’s incredibl. After the initial attack the brothers sought help at the zoo’s café but were turned away since the zoo was closing. Afterwards the brothers asked a security guard for help yet despite their wounds, th woman seemed to be “diffident” and failed to offer any help. According to police records, the tiger attacks were not reported until 5:10 pm when the first attack occurred at 4:30 pm.
San Francisco Zoo spokeswoman Sam Singer has dismissed the accusations since police are still investigating.
