Mitt Romney Faces Battle On Two Fronts

Breaking News: See the results of the five most recent Republican polls all released a day before the Iowa caucus.

With the nation's first caucus in Iowa January 3 and the nation's first primary January 8 in New Hampshire, both states appear locked in a two-man race, but not the same two candidates. Mike Huckabee holds a lead over Mitt Romney in Iowa and John McCain is launching a he challenge for Romney in New Hampshire. This two-state battle has Romney on the offensive in both states and the words are becoming more stinging.

As Huckabee spent time in Iowa pheasant hunting, he made an unveiled dig at Romney pointing out that he has been a lifelong hunter as he bagged a pheasant. His jibe was aimed at Romney's earlier claim of being a lifelong hunter when it was revealed he did not own a gun or a hunting license as he attempted to gain support from the National Rifle Association. Romney, in turn unleashed a few shots at McCain on his apparent change of position on the tax cuts and immigration reform.

Huckabee has a two-point lead in Iowa over Romney, 23 percent to 21 percent and despite Romney's top showing in recent polls in New Hampshire, McCain has pulled within three percentage points, 25 to 28, with Romney according to the poll results posted at usaelectionpolls.com.

Romney has spent far more money than Huckabee in Iowa and McCain's campaign, which came close to fizzling out two months ago due to a lack of cash, has looking for a resurgence in New Hampshire if Huckabee can rout Romney's bid in Iowa.
