Breaking News: See the results of the five most recent Republican polls all released a day before the Iowa caucus.
John McCain has new friends in Massachusetts in the form of the endorsement of the Boston Globe. Considered a conservative Republican publication, McCain was chosen over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney as what the newspaper claims to be the best conservative Republican in the race.
McCain, who only a couple of months ago was forced to revamp his campaign and initiate spending cuts to salvage his campaign has been steadily creeping up on Romney in the New Hampshire polls. Recent results from the American Research Group shows Romney in first place in New Hampshire with a 28 percent approval rating with McCain listed at 25 percent in results posted at usaelectionpolls.com.
While Mike Huckabee holds a slim lead in Iowa over Romney, 23 percent to 21 percent, McCain is listed third at 17 percent. Romney is being forced to split his time in both states attempting to fend off attacks by Huckabee in Iowa while fighting for his political life in New Hampshire against McCain. National polls show McCain in a tie with Romney with an 18 percent approval rating, running behind Rudy Giuliani and Huckabee tied for first with 21 percent.
McCain may also benefit from the surge of Texas Senator Ron Paul in Iowa who has seen his approval increase to 10 percent in polls conducted from December 20 to 23, a six percent improvement in polls conducted just one week prior. However, as many as 12 percent of the expected New Hampshire Republican voters remain undecided or are leaning towards other candidates, McCain is still a force Romney has to reckon with in the state.
