Kumari Fulbright, Former Miss Arizona, Accused of Kidnapping

Former Miss Arizona contestant Kumari Fulbright, 25, has been accused of kidnapping her ex-boyfriend and torturing him. The beauty queen was indicted on five felony charges stemming from the alleged incidents. She is currently out of the Pima County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Fulbright and three other men held her 24-year-old ex-boyfriend hostage on December 8 for up to 10 hours before he finally escaped. Fulbright lured the victim, whose name has not been released, to her apartment where she told him to wait while she took a shower.

While he was waiting, two men identified as Robert and Michael Ergonis, entered the apartment armed with guns.  The victim was tied up and transferred to another Arizona residence where the third man, Larry B. Hammond, became involved. The victim says his former girlfriend “bit him several times while he was bound, stuck a butcher knife into his ear and said she was going to kill him; pointing a pistol at him.”

When the three men left the apartment the victim managed to get one hand loose and overpower Fulbright, who was holding a gun. He grabbed the gun, accidentally setting it off. He then ran from the house “screaming blood murder for help” causing neighbors to call 911.

Fulbright and Larry Hammond were arrested, but Michael and Robert Ergonis have not been found. Fulbright and her accomplices are also believed to have stolen the victim’s briefcase, cell phone, and wallet which held $600 cash. Police are still searching for the Ergonis’ but believe they may have left the country.

Fulbright competed in Miss Arizona in 2006 and is currently a law student at the University of Arizona.
