Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles at different points of the body. The goal of acupuncture is the release or re-channeling of negative energy through the needles. Acupuncture can provide pain relief as well as work as a stress reducer.
When therapeutic massage is used, a highly trained therapist uses various rubbing, kneading, “chopping”, or other motions to manipulate the skin and underlying tissue. Therapeutic massage is known for its ability to promote relaxation. This is something that can be very helpful to a person in a drug treatment program as stress and anxiety often accompany withdrawal from drug or alcohol.
In an effort to rid the body of as many toxins, both natural and those that were created by drug or alcohol abuse, a person in our treatment program may be given a colonic. A colonic is different from an enema as it cleanses entire large intestine, and not just the rectum and very lower end of the colon as an enema does. When the toxins have been removed from the body, the patient will ultimately feel better. As the patient’s diet improves from consuming the healthy foods offered at each meal, this feeling will last.
Another form of stress relief offered in our drug rehab program is Reiki energetic, a Japanese technique designed for stress reduction. Reiki energetic is not a massage as none of the techniques of therapeutic massage are used. Rather, the therapist’s hands either hover slightly above or rest very lightly on a person’s skin at different points, and the Reiki energy is channeled to different points in the body, resulting in relaxation.
Some of these techniques may sound strange or even a little “off the wall”. However, they can be effective when used as part of a drug treatment program. For more information on these methods, please log on to http://www.holisticdrugrehab.com/ or call 1-800-559-9503. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning this or any part of our drug rehab program.
