NHL Playoffs Schedule Friday April 23: Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins Looking to Close Out Series as Sabres and Canadiens Fight to Stay Alive

Alex Ovechkin has his Washington Capitals on the brink of a second round berth as they look to close out the Montreal Canadiens on their home ice on Friday night. This series looked completely different a week ago after the Canadiens stunned the Capitals in Game 1 and then forced them into overtime in Game 2 but Washington has been a different animal since, taking both games in Montreal and seemingly ready to end the series at home on Friday.

The Boston Bruins are also on the brink of a second-round berth as they have the Buffalo Sabres in a 2-0 hole heading into Friday night action. Buffalo will be on home ice but the Bruins have been impressive since dropping the first game in the series. Boston has won three straight and don’t want to stretch the series any further.

Vancouver will be hosting the Los Angeles Kings in one of the most physical series of the NHL playoffs. The Canucks won the opener of the series 3-2 in overtime but fell 3-2 in overtime in Game 2, the series shifted to LA and Vancouver won Game 3 but the Kings bounced back to even the series in Game 4, setting up a crucial Game 5 for both teams.

The same can be said for the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes as they are deadlocked at 2-2 in their best-of-seven series. Detroit came into the playoffs on fire and many thought they could find their way into the Western Conference finals but a loss in Game 1 led to doubt. The Red Wings bounced back in Game 2 with an impressive 7-4 win but that offense disappeared on home ice as they lost 4-2 in Game 3 but a win in Game 4 evened the series. Now it becomes a matter of who wants it more as the series moves back Phoenix.
