Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee won the Iowa Caucus, much to the chagrin of previous polls. After the results were tallied, Obama won for the Democrats, while Huckabee won for the Republicans.
Obama tallied 38 percent of the votes in the primary, followed by John Edwards with 30 percent and Hillary Clinton with 29 percent. Bill Richardson received two percent.
Christopher Dodd and Joe Biden, who received just one percent, both dropped out of the presidential race.
Huckabee garnered 34 percent of the votes. Mitt Romney tallied 25 percent, while John McCain and Fred Thompson both racked up 13 percent. Ron Paul racked up 10 percent, but Rudy Giuliani received just three percent.
The Iowa caucus is the first in a string of various primaries and caucuses that lead to Super Tuesday on Feb. 5. New Hampshire is next, holding the earliest primary on Jan. 8.
Michigan will hold the next primary on Jan. 15, with South Carolina and Nevada following shortly afterward. On Super Tuesday, most states will hold their primaries to see a preliminary vote of who the nation sees as the top presidential candidate.
