GBL Announces Green Business of the Year

The Surprising Winner is an Outstanding Choice for Green Business

The Green Business League has named its Green Business of the Year.  To the surprise of many, it was an auto recycling (salvage) company located in Park City, Illinois.  The reason for the choice of Auto Parts City was that it followed a basic concept promoted by the Green business League.  That concept is "Progress toward Excellence."  In other words, it is hard for any company to have a perfect compliance with environmental issues, but every business can progress as a Green company.

Auto Parts City is an outstanding example of environmental progress and excellence in its pursuit of a better operation.  Old cars are probably no one's idea of a Green industry, but that attitude can be short-sighted.  Drawing from European advancements, Auto Parts City handles all vehicles with thought and diligence.  Some cars can be repaired and resold, which is a form of recycling in itself.

Those cars that cannot be sold, should be recycled for parts to the maximum level possible.

This sheer organization of this salvage process allows customers to find parts and reduces the eventual wastes of old cars.  The alternative is the growth of rusting cars in junk yards, fluids drained into the environment, and mountains of tires that may one day catch fire.  Cars are a huge environmental issue long after they pass their usable cycle.

Prior to going to parts, every car is drained of fluids by a state of the art process.  Auto Parts City recovers 50,000 in gasoline each year.  They also recover more than 20,000 gallons of oil, which is filtered and used to fire a CleanBurn™ furnace to heat the facility.  Transmission fluid and antifreeze are recovered, filtered, and rebottled.

Tires and batteries are either sold as used parts or recycled as well.   When a car is finally used as much as possible, it is removed, crushed, and shredded.  These shredded ingredients are separated and used in the manufacture of other types of new products.

Recycle bins are used throughout the facility, and even the outside furniture is a combination of old tires and plastic in a new form.  Recovered gasoline is burned in the company fleet that can tolerate less than perfect octane.  Even the courtesy cars are electric!

These are only a few of the outstanding efforts of Auto Parts City, and this makes this company an outstanding example of environmental achievement and the best example of a Green business found by the Green Business League.  Therefore, on April 22nd, 2010 (Earth Day), the Green Business League named Auto Parts City the Green Business of the Year.  It was a proud moment for Jay and Larry Brosten, who only regretted that their father, Hy Brosten (The "Original" Recycler) had passed away a few months prior to this event.

The Green Business League is very please to award the Platinum level for the Green Business Certification of Auto Parts City, and to name it as the GBL Green Business of the year.
