Woodward Academy President Found Dead in Midtown Atlanta

Harry C. Payne, the president of a nationally recognized private school in College Park, Georgia, was found dead on Monday afternoon in Midtown Atlanta.

Payne, 60, was named president of Woodward Academy in 2000 and during his seven years the school continued to gain national attention for its academic success as well as its sports and fine arts programs.  

No cause of death has been announced but police are investigating the case.

A message on the Woodward Academy web site simply stated “We have become a community in every sense. Now our community faces the most difficult of tasks — to mourn a great man, a visionary leader and a loyal friend.”
