As debates continue over health care and immigration, the main focus is often still turned toward the current Iraq war. As candidates discuss how many troops they will withdraw and in what time frame, Obama speaks up about a new war. Barak Obama voiced his awareness of the dangers America is facing from the country of Pakistan. Evidence of strong ties with al Qaeda in Pakistan draw question of a war with Pakistan. Democratic candidate Obama, states that as commander in chief he would do what is necessary to protect the American people.
He stated as well that if this means war with Pakistan than he would proceed in that direction. For voters this may be a turning point in where they stand on voter support for Obama. As the majority of Americans simply want our men and women in uniform to come home and for the Iraq war to be at a true end, the thought of another war could easily bring focus on a more peace loving candidate. However in the current polls this speech has not shown any immediate drop I voter percentages. Barack Obama currently leads over his rival Hillary Clinton.
Obama is shown at 33%, while his competitors remain as follows: Clinton 26%, Edwards 20%, Richardson 4% and Kuchinich at 2%. Perhaps the talk of taking a stand on terrorist activity is Senator Obama’s way of distancing his middle names’ Muslim origin and showing the American people where his allegiance lies. For any of the presidential candidates the situations concerning an ongoing war and possibilities of war in other surrounding countries is a lot to take on as a new resident of the White house. We can only keep hope that whoever our next president is they lead us with knowledge and honesty for the protection of this great nation.
