Dysport™ Botulinum Toxin for Wrinkle Treatment Reviewed by Dermatologists

Dysport™ (abobotulinumtoxin A) was approved in April 2009 by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Like Botox®, Dysport™ is an injectable form of botulinum toxin type A and provides dermatologists with another botulinum toxin for the treatment of wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Now, dermatologists are informing their patients about the pros and cons of and several leading dermatologists have published their clinical opinion online regarding Dysport™ for wrinkles.

Since its’ approval a year ago Dr. Todd Minars, a dermatologist with Minars Dermatology in Hollywood, Florida has treated over 100 patients with Dysport ™ and finds it to be equivalent to Botox™. “I tell patients it is "Coke vs. Pepsi” says Dr. Minars or two different brands of basically the same thing.  “There are, however, a few differences worth mentioning.” He added.

"Dysport™  "kicks in" a few days faster than Botox.  And "Dysport is somewhat less expensive than Botox, and with the introductory promotions it can be significantly less expensive. However, once the promotions end, the cost to the patient will be pretty close or the same.”

The clinical perspective of these leading dermatologists are made available through Vivacare’s “From Your Doctor” patient education (www.fromyourdoctor.com) service that publishes the expert opinion of over 3,000 dermatologists with the goal of providing patients with practical health information from the source they trust most.
