Philip Agee, Ex-CIA Agent, Dies in Cuba

Former CIA agent Philip Agee, described by Cuba’s Communist Party newspaper as a “loyal friend of Cuba and fervent defender of the peoples' fight for a better world,” died on Monday at the age of 72.

Agee infuriated the CIA after he published the book “Inside the Company: CIA Diary” in 1975, six years after leaving the agency. The book disclosed the names several operatives involved in covert activities in several Latin American countries.

After having his U.S. passport revoked in 1979 Agee moved to Germany but eventually settled in Havana, Cuba where he opened a travel agency designed to attract U.S. citizens to visit the island.

Agee is believed to have died in a hospital he had been at since undergoing ulcer surgery on Dec. 15.
