Philip Agee, Former CIA Agent, Dies in Cuba

Former CIA agent Philip Agee died in Cuba on Monday at the age of 72. Agee was known for his criticism of U.S. foreign policy and for his 1975 book “Inside the Company: CIA Diary” in which he revealed names of CIA operatives and alleged wrongdoings of the agency. His actions inspired the United State’s decision to make exposing CIA operatives against the law.

Agree worked for the CIA for 12 years before he quit in 1969. Since his United States passport was revoked in 1979, Agee lived abroad. He lived in Hamburg, Germany until he agreed to move to Havana, Cuba to open a travel website.

Agee died Monday night in a Havana hospital after having surgery for perforated ulcers. He was cremated Tuesday and a memorial service is reportedly being planned for Sunday.
