Students Gain Winning Attitude from Academic Summer Camp

“Attitude is everything!” A mantra that holds true to every situation and environment we find ourselves in every moment of every day. Our attitude dictates events and outcomes. The right attitude is the difference that can make all the difference in school.

At SuperCamp, a leading
academic summer program that teaches valuable learning and life skills, teens are asked if they have ever tried something new and were convinced they wouldn’t be able to do it. Next, they are asked if they’ve ever been challenged, yet knew that somehow they were going to be successful. Was the challenge still fun?

As Henry Ford says, “Whether you believe you can or whether you believe you can’t, either way you’re right.” Henry Ford understood the value of having the right attitude. Attitude can be the deciding factor between failure and success, between boredom and fun, between staying in one place and moving forward.

For students, attitude shows up at school too. A student may enter some classes excited to be there, enjoying the teacher and the subject. Maybe he or she enters other classes ‘knowing’ that the class will be boring; in this sense, it probably will be. Many students spend half their days at school wishing they were somewhere else, doing something else. This attitude distracts students and prevents their full potential.

At SuperCamp, one of the
learning skills that students discover is that building a positive attitude is as easy as “ABC”; literally. Attitude, Belief, and Curiosity make it possible to transform an attitude of ‘School is boring’ to ‘Learning is awesome!’ SuperCamp shows students how to write a statement like this in a place where they will see it whenever they study, and recite it when they feel worn down. After the 7-day or 10-day program, students find that they are left with the stimulus that merely writing “Yes I Can!” on their notebook can mean the difference between an “A and a “B,” or a “B” and a “C”.

When a student brings curiosity into the classroom, personal connections and fun naturally develop. Attitude, Belief, and Curiosity are what turn boring words on a text book page into a challenging experience that will leave students wanting and searching for more. It is the small difference that creates the biggest difference.
