MLB Schedule Tuesday April 27: Chicago Cubs Look for Fifth Straight Win, Tampa Bay and Oakland Meet in Showdown of Divisional Leaders
The MLB schedule for Tuesday includes 16 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers and NY Mets playing a double-header to make up for Monday night’s rain out.
After a slow start the Chicago Cubs have rattled off four straight wins and could extend that to five on Tuesday as they host the much improved Washington Nationals. Keeping their streak alive could be difficult for the Cubs as they face Livan Hernandez who has posted a 2-1 record with a staggering 0.75 ERA.
The Tampa Bay Rays came into the season considered by many to be the third or fourth best team in the AL East but they now own the best record in baseball at 14-5 and have a 1 ½ game lead over the NY Yankees in their division. On Tuesday they’ll be facing the Oakland A’s, another surprise team that many thought would be at the bottom of their division. Instead the A’s are atop the AL West with a 1 ½ game cushion over the LA Angels.
St. Louis bounced back from a three run deficit in Monday night’s game against Atlanta and won 4-3. The loss was the sixth straight for Atlanta who now sits in the cellar of the NL East while the Cardinals lead the NL Central by 2 ½ games over the Cubs. It won’t get any easier for the Braves on Tuesday as St. Louis send Chris Carpenter to the hill.
The Boston Red Sox are slowly crawling their way back into the season and Monday night’s 13-12 road win over the Toronto Blue Jays was a much needed offensive explosion. Toronto will be sending Shaun Marcum to the hill on Tuesday and while he has started four games this year he owns a 0-1 record with a 4.00 ERA. The Red Sox will need another strong performance from Clay Buchholz who is 1-2 on the year but he hasn’t had a lot of help from his defense as five of the ten runs he’s allowed have been unearned.
