April 29, 2010, Beverly, MA… When Ford’s engineers designed the 6.7-liter V-8 diesel and 6.2-liter V-8 gas engines now available for the 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty, their ambitions went far beyond an increase in power. That ambition resulted in new powertrains that not only deliver best-in-class torque and horsepower, but which also improve fuel efficiency between 15% and 25% over previous models for best-in-class fuel economy. These remarkable innovations aren’t going unnoticed by Boston Ford dealers receiving the new F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty models.
“Ford Super Duty owners are a distinctive group of truck drivers, with specific demands above and beyond the typical owner,” said Jeff Klein, General Sales Manager of Thomas Ford, a leading Ford dealer in the Boston area. “They know they can always rely on their Super Duty to possess exceptional power, towing and payload capabilities unique among trucks. We’re excited to have the latest evolution of the Super Duty, and we can assure heavy-duty truck shoppers they’ll be as impressed as we are.”
The appeal of the Super Duty begins with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine, designed completely in-house by Ford to deliver 735 ft.-lb. of torque and 390 horsepower, tops amongst diesel engines in its class. The 6.2-liter V-8 gasoline engine also offers exceptional best-in-class performance, providing 405 ft.-lb of torque and 385 horsepower.
However, Ford didn’t seek power at the expense of efficiency, which is why both engines are mated to a new six-speed transmission that can smoothly handle the increased power while still managing to increase fuel economy. Plus, there is fuel flexibility, as the diesel engine is B20 biodiesel fuel-compatible and the gas engine has the option of using E85 fuel.
Paired with that streamlined power is the best-in-class towing and payload capacities Super Duty owners expect. The F-250 and F-350 single rear-wheel models can tow 14,000 pounds and manage payloads up to 4,050 pounds and 4,600 pounds, respectively, while Super Duty trucks that utilize the F-550 chassis cab are capable of towing 26,400 pounds and possess 6,520 pounds of payload capacity.
There’s additional safety too, with the Trailer Sway Control (TSC) system now available on the Super Duty. The TSC system effectively monitors the sway of the trailer being towed and takes proactive measures to reduce any excess movement by applying precision braking or reducing engine torque.
“It’s the total package, a vehicle that’s designed to handle everything its owner might need,” said Klein. “The Super Duty is a work truck, and Ford understands that such a truck needs to be multi- functional. Whether you’re hauling a 10,000 lb trailer or using the available Ford Work Solutions technology to stay connected to your business from your job site, the Super Duty can do it all.”
