Avery Dennison Corporation (Public, NYSE:AVY) soared 8.52% to $42.65 on heavy volume after it posted quarterly results that beat estimates, helped by increasing volumes and solid organic sales growth, and said it sees a modest economic recovery. However, the company expects raw material inflation to be challenging and said it is undertaking pricing actions.

For 2010, the company sees adjusted earnings of $2.50 a share to $2.80 a share, and a 5 percent to 7 percent jump in revenue.

 

Analysts on average were expecting earnings of $2.53 per share on revenue of $6.17 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

 

For 2010, Avery Dennison sees free cash flow of about $300 to $350 million.

 

For the first quarter, the company reported net income of $54.7 million, or 51 cents a share, while revenue rose 8 percent to $1.55 billion.

 

Bemis Company, Inc. (Public, NYSE:BMS) slid 1.375 to $30.89 on very unusual volume.

 

Pactiv Corporation (Public, NYSE:PTV) fell 1.52% to $25.87.

 

Greif, Inc. (Public, NYSE:GEF) jumped 0.20% to $60.53 and made a new 52-week high of $61.02.

 

Owens Corning (Public, NYSE:OC) lost 2.86% to $30.62. Owens Corning is a producer of glass fiber reinforcements and other materials for composites and of residential and commercial building materials.
