Johnny Grant Found Dead at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
Johnny Grant, the “honorary mayor of Hollywood” died Wednesday night at the age of 84.
Grant was a “tireless show business figure” who was known for “his devotion to the historic movie industry hub.” (Reuters) He is best known for introducing new stars who would later get their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Grant also took 60 trips overseas to entertain troops with the USO. He recently returned from Guantanamo Bay.
Grant also did work organizing the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade as well as oversaw the remodeling of Hollywood Blvd which started to fall apart in the 1990’s.
“Bespectacled and always beaming” (Reuters) Grant will be missed by many. Golden Globe winning actress Angie Dickinson, Pay it Forward and Police Woman, has said “There will never be anyone who loved Hollywood as much as he” to KCAL, a local TV station. June Lockhart, seen in Greys Anatomy and Beverly Hills, 90210, stated, “There was no man who was more greatly involved for public relations for Hollywood.
Since Hollywood is only a suburb of Los Angeles, it lacked a mayor, yet for half a century of devotion to the community, Hollywood residents gladly give him the title.
Johnny Grant was found in bed at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The cause of death is not known. Grant is survived by three sisters.
