Barack Obama Wins Endorsement of Former Democratic Presidential Nominee John Kerry

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has gained the endorsement of former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry with an official announcement expected on Thursday.

The Kerry endorsement comes as a bit of a surprise as John Edwards remains in the race. In 2004 Kerry and Edwards teamed up for the Democratic ticket but lost the election to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

Kerry’s endorsement may open the door to several new contributors for Obama. As he heads into South Carolina the Illinois senator is looking to recover from a disappointing loss in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

Both Kerry and Obama will be at a rally at the College of Charleston on Thursday. Kerry is expected to throw his support behind Obama at the event.
