President George Bush Calls for Israeli Concessions to Establish Palestinian State

In the midst of his trip to the Middle East, President George Bush called upon Israel to make concessions in order to establish a viable Palestinian state as a means of creating a lasting peace-agreement.

Bush admitted it would take “painful political concessions” by both Israelis and Palestinians to achieve a peace accord yet they were necessary to end the more than 60 years of territorial struggles.

The President noted, “The agreement must establish a Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people.”

Bush didn’t shy away from calling Israel’s presence in Arab lands an “occupation” and stressed that a new peace agreement would require new lines be drawn that would create a defined Palestinian state.
