Massive U.S. Airstrike in Iraq Targets al-Qaeda Posts

The United States carried out a massive bombing campaign on Thursday, destroying several targets believed to be used as safe havens for al-Qaeda in the town of Arab Jabour, located just outside Baghdad.

 

According to a military statement at least 40 targets were destroyed during the 10-minute aerial assault. The statement revealed that 38 bombs had been dropped with an approximate weight of 40,000 pounds.

 

As part of the recently launched Operation Phantom Phoenix, the bombings were led two B-1 bombers and four F-16 fighters and were followed up with ground forces comprised of U.S and Iraqi soldiers. There have been no reported numbers related to casualties in Thursday’s strike.
