Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Requests U.S. Visa

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has taken steps to secure a U.S. visa that would enable him to enter the country for next week’s Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference in New York.

The scheduled meeting is expected to draw 30 foreign ministers, among them U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and address issues that include Iran and its suspected nuclear weapon program.

Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied accusations that his country was developing nuclear weapons, insisting their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Despite that insistence the United States as well as the UK, China, France, Russia and Germany have been discussing further sanctions against Iran.
