The Orange Democratic Movement has called for yet more demonstrations on Wednesday after the face to face meeting between Raila Odinga and President Mwai Kibaki failed to agree on a coalition government. Needless to say, the attempt John Kufour, the President of Ghana, made to mediate the talks failed.
Joseph Maggoot, a political analyst and research told Akwei Thompson of Nightline that the opposition “is deploying mass action to, essentially, further ratchet up the pressure on the government to yield to their demands…”
Former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan is next in line to mediate. Maggoot’s commented on his feelings on the mediator’s success saying “as a country and as a nation we have to be prisoners of hope. We have to always be optimistic that we get to reach a political solution in a more amicable, peaceful manner…”
